Sawyer was born and raised in the Iowa City area. Growing up, Sawyer played with Iowa City Hockey, but found lacrosse in college. He played club lacrosse at the D3 level at Northern Illinois University. "Now that i am back home, I have renewed my passion for the sport.; 'To help grew the game where I grew up' "
